Hi, I’m Meredith, part of your digital marketing team here at Wakefly. Today I’d like to talk with you about the importance of alt tags, title tags, and meta descriptions regarding your SEO goals.
First, let’s talk about title tags. Whether you are using Bing, Google, or Yahoo, the title tag is the blue hyperlink above the site’s description. Title tags are very important for your site’s performance in the search engine results page and adds value for relevancy and browsing. When creating title tags be careful not to exceed the general character limit of 50-60 characters or your title tags may be cut off and this could have a negative effect on clicks and conversions.
When writing title tags, always be aware of the emotional impact in order to connect as best you can with searcher’s drive clicks. Treat your title tags as an opportunity to connect while still differentiating yourself from the competition.
Its important to include meta descriptions along with title tags. Meta descriptions appear on the search engine results page and describe for searchers, the contents of the website. While meta descriptions may not be vital for SEO, they are important to entice clicks from searchers. This is your opportunity to tell your client what they will find on the page they land on. In this case, your meta description is an opportunity to make that promise to your potential visitor on the search engine results page. But be ready to keep up that promise. Meta descriptions should stay between 110-120 characters. Longer descriptions are ok, but will be cut off in the search engine results page.
Along with title tags and meta descriptions, alt tags are another important piece to your SEO strategy. Because web crawlers can’t see pictures or video, alt tags are used to describe these assets in writing so they can be used to help your search ranking. Alt tags are simple to add and are well worth the time put into adding them
