In most cases, our clients have one AdWords account driving to their website. This is the ideal scenario in that we can easily identify paid traffic from our keywords or ad groups and analyze in Analytics accordingly. We may occasionally run into a situation where the same keyword is in several ad groups which can muddy the waters, but this is a quick fix and can be easily resolved.
This 1:1 account ratio, though ideal, is not always possible. We work with several franchises and certain large B2B companies that require a bit more segmentation when it comes to AdWords accounts. In these cases, individual budget holders at either the franchisee or departmental levels require their own account for billing purposes. As such, we work with our clients to facilitate a scenario where multiple AdWords accounts share data seamlessly with one Analytics account.
Thankfully, Google allows for the linking of each individual account to one umbrella Analytics account. This is easily done via Account Settings > Linked Accounts directly in the AdWords interface for each account. Analytics will then pull in all AdWords data for each account just like the classic 1:1 account scenario.
At this point, there is no need to create new goals or unique thank you pages to track goal completions for each account separately. Simply navigate to Acquisition > AdWords > Accounts and you will be able to view traffic for accounts individually. Here you can toggle easily between accounts, campaigns, ad groups and keywords.
